E major guitar chord or sometimes referred to as the E chord is one of the widely used open chord positions in Guitar.
The E chord consists of 3 notes – E, G# and B. This is an easy chord and we will learn to play the E major chord in 3 simple steps
Playing E major Guitar chord in 3 simple steps
Please take a look at the picture to get an idea of the shape of the E major chord we will play now.
Step 1: Place the index or the 1st finger on the 1st fret of the 3rd string (G string)
Step 2: Place the middle finger or the second finger on the 2nd fret of the 5th string (A string)
Step 3: Place the ring finger or the 3rd finger in the 2nd fret of the 4th string (D string).
Now strum all the six strings in one stroke, that is the E major chord in the open position.
Important points to remember while playing E major Guitar chord
You will have to stretch your third finger a little bit, with a little bit of practice this will be easy.
You will also have to arch or bend your fingers so that you don’t touch the other things. In case you touch the other fingers, then you will mute those strings and the notes from the muted strings will not clear it will be a ‘buzzy’ sound.
