One such Krithi is Bantureethi Kolu or as some may spell it Banturithi Kolu. Composed in the enchanting scale of Hamsanadam, set in Adi talam (4/4 time signature in Western Classical Music). Hamsanadam Raga
There is a sense of joy and auspiciousness when you listen or perform this audava raga (pentatonic scale in Western Classical). Hamsanadam translates to the ‘call of a swan’ showcasing the tranquillity of the bird swimming in a lake with poise and grace, like the raga itself.
The raga is a derivation from the 60th melakartha raga, Neetimati, containing chatusruti rishabham, prati madhyamam, panchamam and kakali nishadam completing this 5-note scale. Originally this raga is a shadava or a 6 scale raga, which includes shatsruti dhaivatam in its family. Additionally, it is performed in Vakra Prayoga or zig-zag notation in order to explore the full intensity of this scale.

Bantureethi Koluvu Lyrics Meaning
To give you a context, this is the saint yearning to play the royal guard to Lord Sir Rama’s courthouse assembly.
In the Pallavi of bantureethi koluvu lyrics, Sri Tyagaraja pleads to be in his presence day and night metaphorically, asking him to make his guard to serve the lord while he is alive. Reethi Bantu means a royal guard.
In the Anupallavi, the composer talks about abolishing the Arishad Varghas or the demons of mind including the Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Mada, Matsarya that are lust, anger, greed, delusion, pride and envy, respectively, knocking them back to earth to live the life of human for all their sins. This shows how he wants to be noble and worthy to be his guard and be empowered to do so.
Finally, in the Charanam or the last verse, the composer talks about the undue devotion he has for the lord highlighting him as the epitome of Rama Bhakthi. He considers calling out Rama’s name to be the most divine weapon like a sword case (khadgamu) one could have and feel the goosebumps (Romancham) of being around the beloved god. He talks about the heavy shiny armour (Ghana Kanchukamu) of Lord Rama.
