One of the biggest challenges is finding the right music tutor. Almost all music schools give free trial classes. In the short window it is easy to get impressed with the music playing skills of the tutors. However, to be a great music teacher, it is not only playing skills but also the following skills are important so that the students enjoy learning music.
Making learning music fun
Honestly learning music is tough. It needs rigour, discipline and practise. A good music teacher makes music lessons fun and enjoyable with an enthusiastic approach, and teaching some favourite songs and engaging with students more as a duet player.
Formal qualifications in music
A lot of musicians are self taught, but a formal qualification from recognised schools or music gurus is always advisable. This is because the music teacher would have gone through a structured curriculum. Learning music is more or less like picking math skills. If the foundations are not strong then it becomes difficult to progress.
Milestone based learning & Recognition
The ultimate joy of learning music is to sing or play the music. Merely practising only the exercise and some old classical pieces adds no interest to the student. Rather it should be once few exercises are practised the skill to be used to play or sing the song.
