D chord Ukulele in one of the most easiest chord to play for a beginner. The D major chord is also referred to generally as D chord and is also an important chord to be mastered by the beginners, if they have to improve their playing skills in Ukulele.
Notes of D Major Chord
It doesn’t matter which instrument you play be it guitar, piano, ukulele or any other instrument, the notes of D major chord is always the same. The notes are D F# and A. D Major Chord Shape in Ukulele
Before getting ready the play chord let us understand the ukulele standard tuning set up. The notes in the string are
- G – The 4th string
- C – The 3rd string
- E – The 2nd string
- A – The 1st string (and highest-tone string)
Take a look at the D major or D chord shape. This chord uses 3 fingers in the same fret and therefore is relatively an easy chord to play.
Given below are the finger positions.
- 1st finger: 2nd fret of the G string – A note
- 2nd finger: 2nd fret of the C string – D note
- 3rd finger: 2nd fret of the E string – F# note
Remember that the bottom open string note is A note. So if you now strum all the four strings then that is the open D Major chord for you.
Alternative Method to Play D Major Chord
In case if you are comfortable using pinky, you can use your pinky (4th) finger. Look at the diagram, you will understand the finger positions. So instead of using 1st, 2nd and 3rd finger you can use 2nd, 3rd and 4th finger in the same way
- 2nd finger: 2nd fret of the G string – A note
- 3rd finger: 2nd fret of the C string – D note
