Let us understand first how to construct the D Major scale. All major scales are constructed with the 7-note formula: W – W – H – W – W – W – H. W stands for a whole note or step and H stands for half note or step.
Using the major scale formula, the notes of the D major scale are D – E – F# – G – A – B – C# – D. The note, D repeats one octave higher. Its key signature has two sharps on the scale. When playing or composing a song, the song is constructed on a particular key signature. So songs constructed on D major scale are referred to as D major keys.
D Major Scale Left & Right Hand Finger positions
We can play this scale in both left and right hands. However, the finger positions are different. Check the notes and finger positions and start playing them as given below. If you are playing note by note, we can play using even one finger. But the purpose of using these finger positions is to build patterns that will help when you start playing different songs, and chord shapes at different speeds.
